Podcast hosts can now monetize their contents on Spotify

The Spotify’s partner program now let popular podcast hosts monetize their video content. Here’s everything you need to know.
Spotify Monetization

The new Spotify’s partner program is focused mainly on podcast hosts and creators in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia. The streaming platform announced this update on the 2nd of January 2025.

This update was initially announced in November 2024 and now that the feature is officially available, qualified hosts and content creators in the countries mentioned above can begin to use the monetization tools.

Once a creator/host is eligible/qualified, he or she will be able to utilize Spotify’s multiple revenue streams. The Spotify’s partner program is expected to boost the platform’s video podcast library.

More so, the program might compete with YouTube, which is currently the dominant of video space. On the other, Spotify is one of the largest streaming platforms in the world for creators.

However, the platform has reported that more than 65% of eligible podcast shows have joined the Partner Program since its announcement at the Now Playing Event.

Some popular podcast shows that have joined includes Smart Money Happy Hour, The Makeshift Podcast by Zach Misischia, Girls Rewatch Podcast, The Paranormal Podcast host Jim Harold, and more.

How Spotify’s partner program works

The Spotify’s partner program allows eligible creators to make money through ads and subscriptions. However, to be an eligible/qualified creator, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Your podcast must be hosted on Spotify.
  • You must have at least 10,000 streamed hours from a minimum of 2,000 unique listeners within the past 30 days.
  • You must be a creator based in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia.
  • Lastly, you must have published at least 12 episodes.

Once you’re able to meet up with the requirements, then you’re an eligible creator who can join the monetization program.

Furthermore, once you join the program, you will be able earn 50% of the money Spotify makes from ads played in your podcasts. You also have the flexibility to choose where ads appear in your podcast’s episodes, as long as there is at least one ad break.

In addition to opportunities that creators and hosts will gain from the partner program, premium Spotify users in the eligible countries will enjoy ad-free video podcasts starting from January 2025—giving creators an opportunity to grow their audience.

In a nutshell, Spotify aims to support podcasters in turning their shows into thriving businesses through the partner program. The program also positions Spotify as a competitor to platforms like YouTube in the podcast and video space.
