Nigeria is one of the fastest adopters of online shopping in Africa. Temu is also shipping to Nigeria. However, payment methods remain a concern for Nigerian shoppers, as their bank-issued debit card is not widely accepted for international payments.
In this article, we are going to discuss everything you need to know about the payment method Temu allows in Nigeria and various ways Nigerians can pay on the e-commerce platform different from using their ATM cards.
Temu payment methods in Nigeria
In Nigeria, Temu accepts two payment methods: Apple Pay and credit/debit card payment. So, how are you going to pay on Temu with a debit card since Apple Pay is not available in Nigeria?
- To pay on Temu in Nigeria, you will need to get a virtual card or a reloadable prepaid card. The card can be denominated in naira (NGN), and it can also be denominated in dollar (USD).
Platforms like Geegpay, Grey, ALAT, and Chipper Cash are the most prominent fintechs that offer virtual cards that work well on international websites like Temu and Alibaba.
Does Temu accept pay-on-delivery?
Not only in Nigeria, Temu does not currently offer a Pay-on-Delivery (Cash on Delivery) option. All purchases must be paid for at the time of order using accepted electronic payment methods such as credit/debit cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Buy Now, Pay Later services like Klarna and Afterpay.
As Temu does not accept cash on delivery payment method, it doesn’t also accept splitting of payments. In other words, you cannot pay Temu when it arrives.
Temu payment cannot be processed
If you cannot process payment on Temu, this is due to some reasons, including insufficient funds, incorrect payment information, payment method not allowed, bank or card restrictions, technical error, exceeding card spending limits, or having issues with your Temu account.
So, before you complain to Temu customer support, you need to check if you have enough funds in your credit/debit card for the payment. You also need to check the card information well to avoid mismatches of information and typos.
Furthermore, if you’re using a card that’s not allowed on Temu, such as Verve Card, your payment will not be processed. Temu only accepts cards from American Express, MasterCard, Discovery Card, Visa Card, and more.
If your bank is restricting your card from performing international transactions, the Temu payment will also remain at processing. Technical issues from both Temu and your card issuance can also cause your payment to remain in processing on the Temu app.
Meanwhile, not exceeding the spending limit of your card will lead to payment not being processed as your bank will not allow that. Most debit/credit cards are limited to $10,000 spending limits per day.
