This article explains with simple step-by-step instructions how to display your Discord chat on live streams. But before we dive into it, here are points you need to consider. Or, should I call it criteria? Well, you can decide about that yourself.

  1. First of all, I want you to note that Discord’s Streamkit Overlay is a tool that lets you add your Discord status, chat, or voice chat to your streams. So, any other discord’s features are not allowed for live stream integration.
  2. And Lastly, the Discord’s Streamkit Overlay is only compatible with Mac, Window and Linux. However, you also need to have the Discord app installed on your computer; the web version will not work.

Once these factors have been put into consideration, your Discord chat integration will work perfectly as expected. With that being said, follow these steps to add Discord chat to your Twitch, Discord, and YouTube live stream easily.

How to add Discord chat to Twitch, Discord, or YouTube Live Stream

  • Launch the installed Discord app on your computer. Let it run and keep it open.
  • If you’ve not sign-in to your Discord account. Login and keep the app open in the background for Discord Streamkit Overlay to work.
  • Now, on your browser, go-to https://streamkit.discord.com/overlay—the Discord Streamkit Overlay website—and click Install for OBS.
  • Authorize the overlay to access your Discord account when prompted.
  • Once your discord account has been authorized, open the Discord Streamkit Overlay, go-to Chat Widget section and select/choose the server and channel you want to show on your Discord, Twitch, or YouTube stream.
  • Now, it’s time to customize how you want the chat to look on your Live stream. There are many preferences you can choose—from color to size and background—you will see a preview of your customization on the webpage.
  • When you’re done with the chat customization, the Discord Streamkit Overlay will provide you a URL of the Chat. Copy the URL on the left sidebar of the Streamkit’s dashboard. More so, ensure to note of the width and height highlighted/used in the Chat.
  • Now, open the OBS Studio and add a new Browser source. You can simply add a new browser source by clicking on the plus (+) sign under sources.
  • In the new Browser source settings you created, pasted the copied Chat’s URL and input the noted width and height in the appropriate space.
  • Tap OK, and your Discord chat will appear in OBS. You can further adjust the position and resize the chat widget as preffered in the OBS studio to fit your stream perfectly.
  • Now, you’re set to go live with Discord Chat in one corner of your screen.

Note: You can use this method to add and use Discord’s Voice Widget to display voice chat on your stream. In the Chat Widget section on the Discord Streamkit Overlay’s website, choose the “ Voice Chat” tab and customize it as explained above to get the URL. Then follow the remaining steps to integrate your Discord’s Voice Chat to your Live stream.
