Palmpay launched a direct debit card in 2024. However, before the debit card was issued, the Nigeria-based mobile money app was issuing a QR-card for its customers. In other words, till now, Palmpay doesn’t have a virtual card.

Instead of providing a virtual card like OPay, the fintech app launches an ATM card in 2024. The ATM card replaces QR-card. The QR-card is a physical card. It has a scannable code linked to Palmpay account that works by allowing others to can scan to make payments.

Merchants use the Palmpay QR-card mostly in-store to collect payments from their customers. As PalmPay now launches a debit card, the debit cards will be used in POS instead of scanning a QR-code.

With that being said, it does look like Palmpay is willing to introduce virtual card in its app. People prefer virtual cards to debit cards because they are safer and more convenient, especially for online shopping.
